What is the Islamic ruling on organ donation after death?

Organ donation is generally permissible in Islam, provided certain conditions are met. According to the Islamic Fiqh Council and numerous scholars, organ donation is allowed if:

  1. It does not lead to the death of the donor.
  2. The donor or their family consents to the donation.
  3. It is done to save a life or improve essential functions like sight or organ health.
  4. The donor’s body is respected, and no organs vital to life, like the heart, are donated while the donor is alive.
